Public Safety Committee
Committee Events
As the state of Gujarat is rapidly surging ahead on the path of industrialization and growth, the issue of public safety is becoming more and more relevant. Several recent incidents in different parts of the country point out that, anti-national elements are constantly targeting our institutions, in particular the industrial units, to derail the growth. The GCCI has therefore constituted this Public Safety Committee to focus on the issues relating to public safety, in particular on industrial safety issues. The major objective of the Public Safety Committee is to generate awareness about public safety, and take initiatives to promote and ensure public safety. This will include not only areas of specific interest to the members such as industrial safety, industrial accident procedures, police station jurisdictions and procedure for filing FIRs, etc but also of areas of general public interest such as road safety, safety precautions and procedures in public places. The Committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Shri Ashokbhai Patel. Shri K T Patel, Hon. Secretary is the GCCI office-bearer in charge.

As a step towards resolving the problems related to traffic safety, an analysis of the traffic problems in 3 major cities of Gujarat, namely Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Bharuch was conducted by the committee, steps to solve the problems were recommended. The committee also installed the necessary safety equipment like fire extinguishers and security personnel at the Chamber premises to ensure safety at the workplace. The committee has regular interactions with Police/Municipal/Local authorities for promoting public safety and improving traffic discipline through training and enforcement. Among the proposed events of the committee, the major one is a seminar for public awareness of civic and criminal laws relating to public safety.
