In India, 17 lakh tonnes of E-waste are generated every year, with an annual increase of 5 percent of generation of e-waste. The E-waste (Management) Rules 2016 notified in supersession of the e-waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2011 provide several options to manufacturers – such as collection of a refundable deposit and paying for the return of goods – to meet the requirements of law. The role of State Government has been also introduced to ensure Safety, Health and Skill development of the workers involved in dismantling and recycling operations.

In order to create more awareness, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry and PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in association with Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, are jointly organizing a Workshop on "E-Waste Management - Challenges, Prospects and Strategies" on 25th July 2017 at 10:00 AM at GCCI Premises, Opp. Vallabh Sadan, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad.

The overall objective of this workshop is to provide an insight into various aspects of e-waste management with respect to the current situation and future scenario.

2. Workshop on ‘Hazardous Waste Management’
  • Date : 26-07-2017
  • Venue : GCCI Time 10:00 AM

The exponential growth in the industries has led to the release of huge quantity of wastes, potentially hazardous to the environment and the living organisms including mankind. Indiscriminate disposal of such wastes on land and water bodies has led to the contamination of surface and ground water supply due to chemicals leaking out of the waste dumpsites posing potential risk to human health. This triggered the mechanism to establish a system for safe disposal of such wastes. MoEF&CC has conferred great importance to the use of waste as raw material or as a fuel in line with the concept of circular economy and industrial symbiosis.

In order to create awareness amongst the stakeholder which includes individual industries, common Environmental facility operators, representatives of the industry associations, auditors, consultants, faculty members of technical institutes, NGOs and all others concerned and to build their capacity and thus increase overall compliance with reference to this new rules on Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016.
